Teaching overview

The Tiger Who Came to Tea is a short children's story first published in 1968 by Harper Collins and illustrated by Judith Kerr. The book features a girl named Sophie, her mother, and an anthropomorphic tiger. The story tells that tigers invite themselves to Sophie's house for afternoon tea and consume all the food and drink.

The book does not have complicated materials, special techniques, and brilliant colors. Still, it is the fresh pastels of colored lead and watercolor that fit the theme she wants to convey: the warm love of ordinary life. After enjoying the picture book video, students imagined and interpreted  ‘what would happen if the tiger came to my home…… from the perspective of personal family life’
